Mid-Autumn Festival

        The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated in the middle of the autumn season which includes the eighth, ninth and tenth lunar months. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. Since it is at the time that the moon is brightest and roundest, so the Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the 'Moon Festival' or the 'Festival for Reunion' because people consider the full moon as the symbol of reunion, harmony and unity.
   
 
zhongqiu              On the Mid-Autumn Festival, family members usually gather together for a dinner and admire the bright full moon and eat the moon cakes. The moon cake is the traditional food of Mid-Autumn Festival. It is round which symbolizes the family reunion.
 
 
   There is one famous legend related to the Mid-Autumn Festival called 'Chang E flying to the Moon'. Chang E is a lady who overdosed on an elixir of life from her husband 'Houyi' who shot nine extra suns out of the sky with arrows, and  became immortal and flew to the moon palace. In the moon, there is a sweet osmanthus tree, and immortal Jade Rabbit lives with Chang E. zhongqiu
 
        The Mid-Autumn Festival is the time for people to take a break from their busy daily life, reunite with the family and friends, which i s very important from ancient to modern time.
