Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon
Boat Festival
falls on the 5th day of
the fifth lunar month.
It is also
called
'Duan Wu' (端午节
duān
wǔ jié)
Festival.
The Dragon
Boat festival
is to
commemorate
the greatest
patriotic poet
and scholar,
Qu Yuan, in
ancient China
who drowned
himself when
he heard his
motherland was
defeated by
another
kingdom.
People rowed
boats trying
to rescue Qu
Yuan, but
failed. Then
they threw
cooked rice to
prevent the
fish from
eating him.
Later, Zongzi
was formed by
using
bamboo leaves
to wrap the
glutinous rice
into
phyramid-shaped
dumplings.
So on the Dragon
Boat festival,
the most
important
activities are
eating Zongzi
and race dragon boats.
